Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK’s largest charities. It was established in 1948 – the same year as the NHS – and marks its 60th anniversary in 2008.
Employing more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals, we expect to provide care to around 27,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in our hospices this year, along with support for their families.
We mainly care for people with cancer but we also care for people with other life limiting illnesses. Our services are always free of charge to patients and their families, which means that in 2007-08, we will need to raise more than £115 million.

Hi and a very warm welcome to the website of Lisburn and District Scouts. Whether you are a new parent seeking information on one of the 12 groups within the District, a current member of any the Groups or one of our many leaders, I hope you find what you need.
What is scouting? The purpose of Scouting is to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.
We do this by placing the young person in a section of Scouting relevant to his or her age. In each section we use a structured programme of games and learning activities and adventurers to enable each young person to grow. Scouting’s great strength lies in its grassroots. It is locally that Scouts are best able to identify and work directly with those young people most in need.

Voluntary Services Lisburn was established in 1981 to help meet the needs of the disadvantaged, disabled and elderly in the local community.
We are managed by a Board of Directors who volunteer their time, talents and expertise to guide and advise on our work.
Over the years we have developed our projects to keep up to date with the needs of local people. We have a diverse range of community projects including a volunteer centre, aftercare service, conservation and environmental work, furniture restoration and sales, not to mention our latest project - the recycling of white goods such as cookers, washing machines, etc.
Waste management and its environmental consequences has become a very topical subject in recent years and we are actively involved in the recycling of household items previously destined for landfill. We now manage a furniture restoration project which collects and restores unwanted items with a view to selling at a lost cost to those on low incomes.

Rate Collection Agency, Valuation and Lands Agency, Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland and Land Registers Northern Ireland have all now merged to become Land & Property Services (LPS).
The background to LPS is the Review of Public Administration published in 2006. The review concluded that an integrated set of land and property related services for citizens and government would aid the regeneration and economic development of Northern Ireland. LPS is the incarnation of this.
The immediate priority for LPS is to continue to integrate the people and processes of the legacy agencies. Once this integration is complete LPS can start delivering a fully integrated ‘One Stop Shop’ for rating, valuation, registration and mapping services in Northern Ireland.
We will keep you updated on any further changes to how we delivery our services.

We are also one of the province’s largest public sector organisations. With a budget of over £600m and a staff of over 3,000 we make a substantial contribution to better health, education and wellbeing through housing.
In addition, our work with communities on housing services and the issues that affect local neighbourhoods adds real value to decision-making, service development and higher standards.

The Northern Ireland Office (NIO) was created in 1972 after the Northern Ireland Government was dissolved in the face of a worsening security situation.
The establishment of direct rule from London saw William Whitelaw appointed the first Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and to date, 16 MPs have served in this post over the past three decades.
The role of the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) is to support the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland in securing a lasting peace, based on the Agreement in which the rights and identities of all traditions are fully respected and safeguarded and in which a safe, stable, just, open and tolerant society can thrive and prosper.

Lisburn YMCA was established to work with an at-risk target group of young people and adults who were not attending any other youth provision and who were regularly involved in anti-social behaviour. An initial commitment to a drop-in concept has, over the past 17 years, built up firm relationships of trust with staff, volunteers and members, opening doors to a range of programmes serving the needs of young people and their communities. Lisburn YMCA works in partnership with other agencies to achieve the most effective delivery to the target group. The YMCA seeks to provide not only young people, adults’ and outreach services but also to work with parents, local communities leaders and statutory agencies to ultimately reinforce long term change in the target group through the environment in which they live and learn.
