Opened on its current site in May 1931, the school is set in a semi-rural setting and enjoys a pleasant situation with extensive, mature grounds. The old building, opened in 1931, has had several extensions since then and is now used for the Nursery Unit, key stage two classrooms and our Playgroup. The present enrolment is 195 pupils. There are 10 Assistant Teachers, including job-share staff and a Principal. Classroom teaching is enhanced in Key-Stage 1 and 2 by six classroom assistants. The school, which is situated on a large, attractive site off the Hillsborough Road close to the centre of Lisburn, was opened in 1934 as a public elementary school for children between the ages of five and fourteen. As it was one of only three or four schools in Lisburn at the time, in the early years there were well over 600 pupils in just thirteen classrooms - an average of 46 per class!!!
